The Vingilot Programme – Celestial Aid for Planetary Servers
In Tolkien’s Silmarillion, Vingilot is the name given to the boat that Cirdon, the Elven boat builder, constructs for Earendil, which eventually takes him to the Undying Lands to plead with the gods to help Middle-earth, a world torn by conflict and descending into darkness. The gods are moved by Earendil’s mission and agree to send help; but having set foot in the home of the gods, Earendil is not permitted to return to his own kind. Wearing the Silmaril on his brow, he and his craft are set in the seas of heaven from where thereafter, they bring hope to those on Middle-earth who look up to see them orbiting in the morning and evening skies.
That orbiting craft, steered by Earendil, is our planet Venus.
To the esotericist, this has a dual significance: when humanity opens the head centres, we become directly connected to what Theosophy calls the Venus System from where the first instructors of humanity came. They seeded our consciousness, and it is in consciousness that we are now working our way back towards that higher realm considered to be Earth’s sister planet. And it is also the case that when we have engaged with Spirit, we can no longer return to what we were before because the doors to the lower worlds will have closed behind us. These doors close in consciousness; and the beings who no longer have to come back into physical form, no longer remember the pain of the Earth. So it is from amongst those of us who are steering our awareness around the rocks and eddies of the three lower worlds that our planet must find its servers. We should take heart from this. We are useful because we are not perfected.
We will surely get it wrong sometimes when an initiative or an action is viewed from the angle of result, but in the Spiritual realm, if we have given it our best, the intent behind that action will glow with a radiance, and that life-affirming energy is available to travel where it is needed to nourish something of which we may have no knowledge.
Intent is the will or purpose with which we do an act. It is an energy and it is the currency of the spiritual realm. It is not restricted, like money in a bank account to the undertaking, which is at the donor’s discretion. It is available to all that lives.
Service, as DK put it in Esoteric Healing, is seeing a need and knowing how to go about meeting it. And that is the definition we use here in this article on planetary service.
The Vingilot Programme is for those who are ready to appeal to the heavens for aid on behalf of the cause, which they serve, whether they do that as part of a group or working alone. We are no longer the subject, but the agent, and that appeal is for creative energy to vitalise us in our capacity as the agent, or to vitalise the project / undertaking directly, whether it concerns the mineral, vegetable, animal or human kingdoms.
The Vingilot charts have none of the complexity of those required for Orthodox and Transitional Astrology. They are simple triads, which can be constructed by those who have no great astrological knowledge, provided they are willing to follow the instructions, know the order of the Zodiacal signs and are open to hear that behind the Tropical Zodiac, which we use in the West, there is another called the Sidereal Zodiac that takes us a step closer to the constellations, which give their names to the signs.
With the Vingilot system we call on the realm of Spirit, and it is with intent, not mathematical precision, per se, that we knock on its door. An intent to serve means that we will do everything that we need to do to the very best of our ability and that includes the construction of our chart. This is something different from agonising about precision; it is about having the confidence to go ahead with our findings, whatever they are, because we know we have given our best, and that donation is a down payment to Spirit.
Eventually, the commitment to do everything the very best that we can, will extend to every action in every area of our lives. Then there will be no half-heartedness, reluctance, resentment or sloppiness. They and we will shine and we will be confident because in the joy of being alive, we get over ourselves and our anxieties about our unworthiness.
Western spirituality has not yet covered this stretch of the road in any detail, and so, as yet, we have neither the language nor the literature to draw upon. We have come to this place by way of a different route from those on the South American continent whose understanding is enshrined in the Toltec tradition. And it is appropriate that we bring with us the self-awareness and other-regarding awareness that 2,000 years of refining the energy of desire has developed within us, and create a synthesis between spiritual will and compassion. When we have been conditioned into fearing power, and of distrusting ourselves when powerful, to be powerful on behalf of something that is not ourselves is perceived to be a spiritually safer route.
Planetary service is just such a synthesis. It is a route for white magicians and it is the right approach for us Westerners, whose strong personalities make egotism and self-centredness an ever-present liability.
Shamballa is waiting to meet us and help us on this new stretch of the road. If only we will learn to love life, leap free of self-centredness and a sense of helplessness that holds us and keeps us out of their reach. And to do this, we can appeal to the heavens for aid.
We produce below KH’s Meditation for the sign Taurus, the orthodox ruler of which is Venus. Like all the meditations given in From One World to Another, this meditation is designed to prepare us to engage with Spirit.
The Sparkle of Venus
Extract from: From One World To Another
Published DKF-Koruna 2010
The way in which we are engaging with the Zodiacal signs for the purposes of these meditation exercises gives a significance to the planet Venus in respect to three signs: Taurus, Gemini and Libra.
Of the three, Taurus is the sign that confers the strongest attraction to the qualities of Venus expressed in a material form: through an orderly and peaceful home, well cultivated and fruitful land, the pleasures of a good table, loving relatives and partners, the gleam of flame on polished glass, and the lustre of diamonds, which can be likened to the sparkle of Venus.
The Taurean understands that preparatory effort has to go into creating all these things, and at this he will work patiently and determinedly. He does not expect immediate results. Oftentimes this preparation will involve the ruthless clearance of accretions that clog, pollute and corrode the surfaces that would attract and radiate light. The diamond does not shine until it is polished and crafted.
Those beings who are part of the consciousness of the planet Venus, like attentive ladies-in-waiting, are themselves waiting patiently, ready to step forward to help Earth, the sister planet, when she begins the process of cleansing and preparation, which will enable her own radiance to shine forth.
You too can assist this long-awaited process by cleaning your own environment. See yourself within your home, throwing out clutter and freeing surfaces so that they may radiate light. Clear gardens, land, ponds and streams of rubbish, dead wood and leaves.
When that is done, see yourself taking a clear glass container full of clean water and holding it to the light of planet Venus, using your eye to draw its light through the glass into the water. Now, wash down your surfaces and floors with this water, refresh your garden, bathe yourself in it and drink down what remains.
This will put the sparkle of Venus into your mind, and then you can be the agent that puts it into your physical environment.
For that which must come I prepare myself In my mind and in my environment That I might better understand How radiance both dispels and attracts.
Those who are lucky enough to know where to locate Venus in the night sky should do this exercise as a physical act as well, and use the water as described above.
